The Dresden watchmaker Ferdinand A. Lange laid the foundation for the Saxon fine watchmaking business when he established his watch manufactory in 1845. His pocket-watches are still in great demand among collectors all over the world. After the Second World War, the enterprise was expropriated and the name of A. Lange & Söhne was almost forgotten. In 1990, Walter Lange, the great-grandson of Ferdinand A. Lange, took the risk of starting up the business anew. Today, Lange produces just a few thousand wristwatches every year, made of gold or platinum. They are powered exclusively by watch movements developed in-house, expensively decorated and assembled by hand. With 59 manufactory calibres, A. Lange & Söhne has attained a leading position among the world's best watch brands in little more than 20 years.
