Join us as we sit down with Jason Fox to discuss his relationship with Bremont and learn some survival skills using his favourite Bremont watch.

Can you please introduce yourself and give us a brief overview of your background?

I’m Jason Fox , former UK Special Forces soldier and Royal Marine Commando , I was medically discharged from the forces in 2012 after being diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Since being discharged from the forces I have been involved with SAS who dares wins a channel 4 reality programme first aired in 2015. I’ve also written a few books; I do a lot of corporate talks and I champion the battle against PTSD and mental health.

Can you share your proudest achievement?

That’s a difficult question I have a few, as you go through life you achieve things you are proud of. Passing Royal Marine training id obviously one, joining the special forces and having a kid. But ultimately, I think what I’m really proud of and glad I was able to do is overcome my journey with poor mental health.

What was it like leaving the military and becoming a public figure, how do you handle being in the public eye?

Being in the miliary and moving into the limelight, getting a profile was a little bit long winded. I left because I was medically discharged due to my PTSD and poor mental health, I then had a journey of discovery, at the time I didn’t see it as this, I saw it quite negatively I struggled badly. My relationships broke down and I ended up contemplating suicide, it was a tough two years. Then I started to change things, I was honest with who I was and what was going on. I was defiantly then on the path to fixing myself and because of that I had opportunities that landed in my lap, and I took them. That’s pretty much how I ended up in the public eye, I actually enjoy it. I never looked for that, I never thought it would be something I would do, once it was there I embraced it and had a laugh.

It can be difficult; I employ stuff that I was taught in the military. I was always taught to think very carefully before you carry out an action, because that action could be your last one. And now what I do is try, I’m still human I still make mistakes, before I do something I think long and hard about the impact it might have how might it make people feel, those who are close to me, and myself. And if any of those flag up any major concerns, I won’t do something. Being in the public eye has made me a little bit slower in my thought process in carrying out an action or saying something.

How did your relationship with Bremont begin?

How did my relationship start with Bremont, well this is going to sound weird, you’re probably going to think I’m a weirdo, but years ago when in was just leaving the military I remember seeing Bremont for the first time. I thought wow they are cool, and it was one of their limited editions at the time, it was awesome. I’ve always really liked them, I think Selfridges used to sell them and I’d go in and look at them, never thought I’d be able to own one or afford one. But then after I did the first season, maybe the second season of the show SAS: Who dares wins a friend of mine said ‘I know a lady who works at Bremont and the brand would like to speak to you’. I feel like there was a law of attraction going on. We spoke and built a relationship between me and the brand, they gifted me watch to wear, it was all quite casual. I did loads of cool stuff with them and then I became an ambassador. I suppose, we met became partners and then got married.

What is your favourite piece from Watches and Wonders and what watch are you wearing?

My favourite piece is actually the one I’m wearing, the Terranova 42.5mm black ceramic bezel chronograph. It is my favourite at the moment, part of the Terranova collection, I love how clean it is how crisp it is, so easy top read and it just looks cool.

Top 3 things on your Bucket list?

I really want to go to a very remote south pacific island; you see them on TV and they look amazing so that’s one of them. Second is to always be happy and third is make sure my Mrs is happy as well.

Survival Skills:

Maybe useful piece of information, if your ever stuck in the wilderness in a survival situation and you don’t have a compass to help you navigate, you can use a watch that has hands. The Terranova is perfect for this because it has the cardinal marks (North, East, South, West). The way you do it is, if you’re in the northern hemisphere, you get the hour hand and you point that at the sun, if you can see it or if you know roughly where it is. Then the distance between the hour hand and 12 o’clock (the acuter angle) you split it done the middle and then that is south, then you can adjust your watch accordingly. But if you’re in the southern hemisphere you do the opposite, you point the 12 o’clock position to the sun. Again, you look for the hour hand and the distance between it split in half, then that is North.
