Evolving from the cushion shapes of earlier 1960s references, the 1990s case introduced a more compact, monobloc silhouette defined by sharper angles, crisper edges, robust solid lugs, and a curved Crown Protective Bridge that follows the watch's profile. Originally adapted from 47mm to 44mm for Panerai’s first presentation to the civilian public, this design now enters a new chapter in a reduced 42mm size.

P.980 automatic calibre's 3-day power reserve, traversing balance wheel bridge and stop seconds function support practical daily performance and precise synchronization, while six-position testings ensure chronometric reliability. The calibre is finished with horizontally brushed top plates and an open-worked oscillating weight featuring a blue “Officine Panerai” engraving.
