Amongst a horological landscape that pays great attention to precision and performance, Panerai stands out amongst the rest with its instantly recognisable and somewhat emblematic sports watches.

The Luminor collection is perhaps Panerai’s most iconic of all with its cushion shaped case, sandwich dial and signature crown protecting bridge. It is no surprise that when Panerai decided to journey back into the field of chronography, that Luminor was the collection of choice to host four new chronographs. Following the recent exciting launch of 4 new chronographs to add to Panerai’s iconic Luminor collection, we spoke with our Specialist Watch Buyer, Heather Grant, who shared her thoughts on the stunning new additions.

Please tell us more, in your own words, about the new Panerai Luminor Chronograph collection.

A watch made for sports, competition and performance has been embedded within Panerai’s history since the 1940’s, so the new chronographs are a perfect addition to the collection. Previously available in higher priced models, these new models are a great price point for adding a Panerai function to your collection. Each of the four colourways contain the automatic P.9200 Calibre with approximately 42 hours power reserve and up to 100 metres water resistance, these pieces are practical for any moment in time.

What is your favourite design feature of the Luminor Chronograph?

For me, I am pleased that Panerai have kept the distinctive feel of a typical Panerai within this collection. Big and bold in design, the chronograph pushers are balanced on the opposite side of the case as the crown protector, unlike typical chronographs which tend to sit either side of the crown. Although a small variation in design it is one which I think adds that extra special detail that Panerai never fails to miss.

What distinguishes the Luminor Chronograph from other sports inspired chronographs?

Well, if you were to strip the name away from the dial, a Panerai would instantly be recognisable by the iconic cushion-shaped case and prominent crown protector. Known as an icon of luxury sports watchmaking, these contemporary chronographs are a perfect addition to the core collection.

Who do you think this collection will appeal to and why?

I think that this is such a versatile timepiece, with colourways and materials for all. If you are looking for a timepiece for everyday wear, the steel timepieces are delivered in great commercial colourways. For anybody looking for that added touch of luxury, the Blu Notte in the Goldtech™ case and rich blue dial is the perfect piece for you.

All models are also fitted with an interchangeable strap system allowing the wearer to change between bracelet, alligator leather or rubber strap in minutes.

Throughout the month of September 2021, Panerai is presenting an opportunity to win a one-night stay for two at the Eden Club in Pittormie Castle – Scotland.
